Blue Moon
Jae Pil Eun
Work period
20 April – 11 May 2025
Vleeshal (Map)

From April 20 to May 11, 2025, Vleeshal presents Blue Moon by Jae Pil Eun, a work inspired by Korean shamanistic practices in which drums are used to summon spirits. The installation, which includes a large ceramic drum, is designed to be activated during performances, one of which took place during the performance program Stage Left at Vleeshal on April 19.
During these performances, deep, rhythmic sounds emerge—associated by the artist with the elements water, air, fire, and earth—which fill and resonate throughout the space. Throughout the exhibition of Blue Moon at Vleeshal, Jae Pil Eun is also working on an audio piece based on the sounds from the performance. This sound work will eventually be added to the installation.
During Blue Moon, the artist will often be present to conduct research in Vleeshal for his upcoming solo exhibition Red Celebration, which opens on June 14, 2025. Visitors are warmly invited to view both the installation and the artist’s research, and to engage in conversation with the artist*.
On Saturday, May 10, Jae Pil Eun will lead the workshop Body Sound, where participants are invited to experiment with bodily sounds such as heartbeat, breath, and voice, under the artist’s guidance. To register for this workshop, please send an email to office@vleeshal.nl.
* From April 25 to 27 and April 30 to May 3, the artist will not be present at Vleeshal, but the installation will still be on view.
