On December 8 it was Purple Friday, an action day that is organized yearly by the GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) to bring attention to all forms of sexual- and gender identities. Especially for this day, Vleeshal organized Queer Cheer, a party amongst the artworks of Freddie Mercado in the exhibition Freddie. Mercado explores the boundaries between identity and gender within his work, making his show the perfect setting for this special party. During this night, musician Nina Ophelia and queer collective Bebe Books were in charge of the music and Susan from Grindr performed two acts.
Nina Ophelia is half of the duo Designer Violence, and played 80s and 90s alternative mixed with pop. Queer collective Bebe Books played a danceable surprise set until the end of the night. Dragqueen, founder of House of Lux and Drag Race Belgium participant Susan from Grindr performed two acts during the evening.
Series
Vleeshal is an internationally oriented center for contemporary art, rooted in Zeeland. In Zeeland Focus, Vleeshal highlights regional artists, takes part in and celebrates local contemporary art and culture.
Education is of great importance to Vleeshal. Its educational program accompanying the exhibitions is twofold. Firstly, for each child who visits the exhibition there is an educational assignment available at the counter. This assignment is based on the child's perception of the world. Secondly, Vleeshal organizes educational workshops for both primary school and secondary education. This workshop consists of a receptive part in which the schoolchildren or students view and discuss the exhibition, and a reflective part with a processing assignment.
If you want to book an educational workshop, you can contact us at office@vleeshal.nl.
This party is organized in collaboration with various partners and is supported by the Krijger Zuiderwijkstichting.
