On Saturday, September 6, from 9pm to 1:45am, it’s time once again for Queer Cheer: Vleeshal’s annual queer party! This edition is organized in collaboration with music venue De Spot in Middelburg.

Queer Cheer is a party especially for the queer community, where we celebrate all forms of identity by dancing together. Throughout the evening, there will be drag performances every hour.

With your Queer Cheer ticket, you’ll also get free access to Vleeshal all weekend, where the solo exhibition Red Celebration by Jae Pil Eun will be on view. In his exhibition, the artist uses the figure of the snake, symbolizing renewal, rebirth, and transformation through its shedding, as a central theme. This symbolism beautifully aligns with the essence of drag performances and the opportunity for guests to experiment with various (gender) expressions during the party.

Everyone is welcome at Queer Cheer! We aim to create a safe and inclusive space for the entire queer community and their allies. That’s why we have a set of house rules that we actively enforce.

Discrimination, homophobia, racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, body shaming, and (sexual) harassment will not be tolerated. Anyone violating these rules will be removed from the event immediately.

We ask everyone to respect each other’s boundaries and identities. Always ask for consent: whether it’s to dance, touch, or take photos.

Practical info:

• Gender-neutral toilets are available
• There is a space at De Spot where you can change outfits on-site
• De Spot is wheelchair accessible

Staff from both De Spot and Vleeshal will be present throughout the evening. They will be easily recognizable and approachable. Don’t hesitate to speak to them if you have questions, experience an unpleasant situation, or just need a moment.
